On June 20, 2008, life as I knew it changed forever. It’s the day I married my best friend…the love of my life…WALTER INFANTE. With him there are no more voids in my life. I have found happiness beyond my wildest dreams…a happiness that I pray everyone can experience in their life times. Whoever said that turning 50 meant that you were on the down-sloop of your life was soooo wrong! I have never felt better or younger!
I told you I was an incurable romantic!
Way back in 1981 I graduated from one of the top linguistic schools in the country – Millersville University of Pennsylvania, located in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country. I woke up post mornings to the smell of cow manure emanating from the working farm across the street from my dorm, and the clip-clop of horse and buggies on their way to work or church, the primary mode of transportation for most Amish people in this part of rural Lancaster County. It was here where I became fluent in German, Russian, Polish and French. I didn’t master Spanish until after I met Walter…go figure.
I have often been asked what the key is to being a good writer. There, of course, is no one answer to that question. For me there are a couple of things. First, you need to be motivated. You need to be fired-up and believe that you can do this. What many people don’t realize is that writing, if you are doing it for a living, is work, and you must treat it as such. I believe that to be a good writer you must persevere and write every single day-including Saturday and Sunday-no matter how bad you might think the stuff you are writing is. I like to journal. I’ve been doing it since I was 13-years old. Back than I used it as therapy to recover from my sexually abusive life at the time. Back than I never thought that the stuff I wrote would ever see the light of day. The truth is I prayed that no one would ever read what I was writing. It was for my eyes only. But now, when I’m working on my books I often refer back to those journals for inspiration. It’s amazing what little gems I unwittingly write down that at the time seemed like nothing, but end up becoming pivotal scenes in my stories.
If there’s anything you would like to know about me…feel free to ask.
